PLAN B - ALTERNATIVE CAREER OPTION FOR CA STUDENTS
One of the unique qualities of every CA student is Determination. It is their determination and dedication toward the Goal that leads to ultimate success.
The Chartered Accountancy course, run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, has set very high standards and that makes this course one of the toughest courses across the Globe. That is the reason if a student clears the entire CA course in the first attempt, we consider him/her fortunate. Such students get rewards in one or the other way. He may get an excellent package in the industry or he may set up his practice to grow in the long run or as per the recent trend he may go for entrepreneurship.
Looking at the other side, there are certain demerits of the Chartered Accountancy course, one of them being the High Drop-out ratio.
High Drop-out ratio:
As we know that all the students aren't fortunate. Many fails, try again & fail again. Ultimately they drop the CA course.
Ideally, such students, somewhere in their 20s, go into depression as they feel that they have spent the most important 5 to 6 years of life on something & they haven't succeeded in the same. Now they believe that their future is ruined. Lately, we have observed that this dropout ratio is very high & is in an increasing trend.
ALTERNATIVE CAREER OPTIONS:
That's where we suggest an Alternative Career. If a student doing CA is stuck, he/she should explore options like US CPA, UK ACCA, US CMA, or US CFA.
1. US CPA:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) the is world’s Largest Accounting Body. It is the world’s highest qualification in accountancy and is similar to the Chartered Accountancy qualification in India and is universally recognized & globally accepted.

2. UK ACCA:
ACCA is based on international accounting standards, making it the only global professional accountancy qualification worthy for the future. One will get an opportunity to work with top employers, as the syllabus gives the skills and knowledge to stand out in the professional world on international grounds.

3. US CFA:
Chartered Financial Analyst is one of the highest distinctions in the investment management profession. As a CFA charter holder, a student will have the knowledge and the skills to thrive in the competitive investing industry. 4. US CMA:

Recommendation
Out of all the above options, one should select the course after considering lots of aspects. Nevertheless, we believe the following points must be kept in mind:
- CA Final Dropout:
We strongly recommend you to go for US CPA or US CFA. Depending on his interest level, he should choose US CFA considering the specialization in Finance or should choose US CPA for specialization in Accounts, Auditing, or Taxation. Both the courses are having strong industry demand. While US CFA is a 3-level course, US CPA is just a 1-year course with only 4 papers to clear.
- CA Intermediate Dropout:
US CMA or UK ACCA can be the right option for the students who couldn’t clear CA intermediate. UK ACCA is an excellent option but one has to carefully check the exemption in several papers available to him/her before selecting the course. US CMA can be a good option here as the major syllabus is similar to CA Intermediate.
Further, the student may go for US CFA also if he/she is done with graduation and is interested in finance.
- CA Foundation Dropout:
One of the most relevant options in this category will be UK ACCA or US CFP. UK ACCA is an excellent option to be pursued along with Graduation. It’s a 3-year course with recognition in India as well as major locations outside India.
