The US CPA Exam Consists of Four Parts

Core Exam

  • Auditing and Attestation (AUD)
  • Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR)
  • Regulation (REG)
  • Discipline Exam (You can choose any one)
    • Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR)
    • Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP)
    • Information System and Controls (ISC)

New Exam Structure

All exams are a mix of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and task-based simulations (TBSs).

  • Auditing & Attestation (AUD) – (78 MCQs and 7 TBSs.)
  • Financial Accounting & Reporting (FAR) – (50 MCQ’s and 7 TBSs.)
  • Regulation Taxation and (REG) – (72 MCQs and 8 TBSs.)
  • Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR) – (50 MCQ’s and 7 TBSs.)
  • Information Systems and Controls (ISC) – ( 82 MCQs and 6 TBSs.)
  • Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP) – (68 MCQs and 7 TBSs.)

Eligibility Criteria

  • A bachelor’s degree in Commerce or equivalent (120 credit hours).
  • For CPA license: 150 credit hours required (usually a Master’s degree or additional coursework)
  • Some states allow an Indian B.Com + M.Com/CA for eligibility.

Duration and Completion

  • Approx. 1 to 2 years
  •  Consists of 4 exams – AUD, FAR, REG, and (BAR or TCP or ISC).
  • Requires 150 credit hours of education and relevant work experience.
